The Humble “Do Not Disturb” Sign

12th July 2015 by Michele Neylon 2 Comments

Do Not Disturb Sign Hang On Door Knob

The humble “do not disturb” sign. You’ll find it hanging inside the door of your hotel room no matter where you go in the world.

And even though you probably know what it’s used for you often forget ..

It’s main purpose?

To keep housekeeping staff at bay before 9am on a Sunday. Why hotel housekeeping staff seem to think that anyone in their right mind would be up and out of their room before 9am on a Sunday morning is beyond me..

In business hotels the “do not disturb” sign is your saviour. If you want to sleep in beyond 8am on a weekday you’ll need it.

So unless you want to be woken up by the housekeeping staff early in the morning, remember to hang the sign on your door!

Was this written after being woken up in a hotel by cleaning staff at some crazy hour in the morning? 🙂

      Yup!
It’s not as much of an issue in “holiday” hotels, but if you stay in hotels that are more “business” oriented the housekeeping staff will start knocking on the doors very early in the morning
